BVEP Talking Points following the appointment of a new PM

In an effort to provide a collaborative approach toward the Industry’s position, following the new the appointment of Liz Truss as the new PM, BVEP suggests Partners coalesce around the following “talking points”.

  • The Advocacy & Government Relations Working Group of the BVEP will be meeting on Thursday to agree the key priorities for the Industry. These will be further discussed by Partners at the full Partners meeting on the20th September.
  • Key objective within the business plan is to “continue to raise the profile of the Industry to government departments, highlighting its economic and social contribution aligned to the relevant priorities set for each department.
  • Urgent need to persuade new Ministers of the part events play in delivering economic growth and contribute towards the levelling up agenda.
  • We welcome the new PM’s focus on growth and will emphasise the role events play in showcasing and acting as a catalyst for the UK’s scientific, industrial, innovation and creative enterprise to the world.
  • Events are an integral part of spreading prosperity across UK communities. They are critical to enhancing people’s lifestyle and improving community wellbeing as well as sustaining local and rural destinations.
  • The weakness of the pound will make it more competitive for international events to be hosted in the UK and will also provide opportunities for UK event organisers to drive more profitability from events they hold internationally.
  • We welcome the promise of support to consumers and businesses to ameliorate the high energy costs which are impacting event organisers and event venues.
  • We do expect more support to be considered to assist the cost of living crisis which goes far beyond just energy costs, affecting transport costs, material costs and the provision of hospitality services.
  • We need to continue to highlight, in challenging times for businesses the benefits of holding events to drive business, provide sales opportunities, create greater collaboration and employee motivations and training programmes.
  • Event organisers need to continue to look to provide value propositions by offering smarter solutions which BVEP will play ap part in sharing best practices.

The Business of Events conference in November will also be used as a platform to expand industry links between the Government, new Ministers and the Public Sector.

Challenging times but together the Events Industry will be stronger.
