Richmond Hill Hotel, the well-renowned Georgian hotel which sits atop the town’s hill, was a proud sponsor of Be Richmond’s ‘Get on Board 2023’ event.
A team of seven colleagues from the hotel donned their wetsuits to paddle board in this year’s event, paddling from the riverbanks of Kew Bridge to River Lane whilst collecting plastic litter along the way.
The event was a ‘oaring’ success with members of the community joining together for a day of fun and environmental action with over a dozen bags of plastic collected from Richmond Hill Hotel’s team alone.
Organised by Be Richmond, the aim of the event was to successfully raise awareness of plastic pollution in the area’s waterways whilst those taking part could learn to paddle board from the professionals, Active360.
Diane Tapner-Evans, General Manager of Richmond Hill Hotel, said: “We were proud to sponsor this year’s Get On Board event and my colleagues who were able to be there on the day had a fantastic time getting involved and making a real contribution alongside other members of the community who also have a passion for sustainability and helping keep our community clean.
“We have some beautiful waterways here in Richmond however we need to make sure we look after them so Be Richmond’s litter pick along the river was the perfect solution whilst it was also a fun way to socialise and meet more like-minded people.”
The hotel’s sustainability initiatives include working with like-minded businesses and suppliers who share the same sustainability values including its food and drink products, there are electric vehicles points in the car park and Richmond Hill also promotes biodiversity and has a mini herb garden in the grounds.
It has been certified as a Carbon Neutral hotel and achieved a gold award by Green Tourism, the highest-level award possible.
