UPDATE – VisitBritain Business Events – Resource Update – September 2022 + The Power Of Events Bulletin

VisitBritain Business Events – Resource Update – September 2022

VisitBritain has created and updated some key documents on our VisitBritain Business Events – Resources page to support our British destinations and stakeholders across their key activities, client engagement, business development and team training. The library of new resources includes the following:

  1. VisitBritain Business Events Legacy and Impact Toolkit

Destination management organisations are having to expand their expertise to demonstrate the wider value and influence in hosting successful business events in their regions. Whilst being a vital contributor to the visitor economy and regional sector growth; it is now becoming increasingly important for DMOs/CVBs to demonstrate the importance of these events to wider communities and stakeholders, whilst minimising the impact on the environment. Alongside this our leading event venues are increasingly highlighting the wider impact and leadership they have on their communities and city business ecosystems across their annual CSR reporting. This new toolkit and guide, written in partnership with #MEET4IMPACT, is designed to support our DMOs/CVBs and large event venues to agree, plan and create the greatest possible impact through business events working in collaboration with their clients.

  1. VisitBritain UK sector strengths

The UK has a number of intellectual knowledge capitals to attract international business events. We have created a first round of toolkits to support our UK Partners’ understanding of these sector strengths with content which can also be included in any future bids or proposals. The first batch includes advanced manufacturing and engineering, finance and professional services, food and drink, healthcare and life sciences and technology.

  1. VisitBritain Sustainability toolkits

In partnership with GDS-Movement and isla, we have developed some sustainability toolkits to support our DMOs/CVBs and their local partners to plan more environmentally friendly events. The resources include an organiser guide, a responsible delegate guide, as well as call to action to request practical checklists to support decision making on travel and transport, energy, production and food and wate

  1. Bringing your business events to the UK

This document contains frequently asked questions to support our European partners in organising events here in the UK, including information on items such as visas, links to rules on sales and promotion, VAT, freight and healthcare.

  1. Business Events Target Segments

We have created a presentation which outlines the key business event sectors alongside their needs and wants. This is to support our UK sector upskill new starters or more junior members of staff on the corporate and association sectors.

  1. International Markets Profiles

These again created for new starters or more junior members of staff, these territory updates provide top level insight on working with some of our larger international markets, such as France, Germany, USA. The decks also include up to date flight audits which will be updated again later this year.

The Power Of Events Bulletin

Thank you for your patience and support since our last bulletin.

We held off an update in August as we appreciate the industry had a very busy summer, also some of our partners were on much-deserved annual leave. We have also been working hard too behind the scenes so there is much to update you on.

These emails will remain roughly monthly, but if you’d like to stay more regularly up to date with The Power Of Events mission please follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
To give you a small flavour of the growing broad representation across the sectors, recent supporters/partners joining up in just the last few weeks include Jack Morton, Identity, Production Bureau, ACC Liverpool, ArcTanGent Festival, Rego Group, AEME, MUTA, The Showmans Show, The University of Greenwich and The University of Northampton to name a few …. our growing community is now made up of over 500 supporting organisations and partners and is ever expanding. This is in no small part due to the introductions from our existing network which is The Power Of Events in action.

Thank you for all your amazing support in helping us hit our initial £100K start-up target. Due to increased momentum and connections being made our new stretch goal is £200K which will further support us with enhanced resources, time and impact across the delivery of The Power Of Events platform and app.

We are pleased to share with you we are provisionally aiming to launch The Power Of Events platform by the end of January 2023. However, this is subject to many variables but your ongoing support and collaboration will help us stay on track. We are currently working on content collation, functionality and final wireframe.

If you’d like to support us on the launch plans and format we are setting up a new launch Action Group in the coming weeks, let us know if you’d like to join.

Two key resources on The Power Of Events platform will be the Event Industry Calendar and the library of the top industry research papers and reports. Nowhere else can you currently find a conclusive list of all of the events for events profs or research papers and we want to change this! We need your help!
To begin curating the list of events as a reference guide for all event professionals across the seven sectors, we have created a Google Sheet which we would like to invite you to contribute to. No event is too big or small. We are looking for all event types from Educational to Social and Celebratory, as well as events which are open to all, free to register, ticketed or invite only.

Equally, we encourage you to add any research you think may be applicable. Please do not worry if there is a paywall or if the research is not publically available, at this stage we are compiling a list and from there we will begin to reach out to the authors, commissioners, etc to discuss showcasing the research on The Power Of Events platform for the greater good of the whole industry.
  Contribute to the list today!
Want to boost your connections and industry insight? Check the calendar to see when the next supplier showcase or large-scale expo is.

Been out of the game on and want to network again? Review the upcoming networking events run by all the major industry associations and find the right one for you.   Contribute to the Events industry Calendar   Contribute to the Call for Industry Research   Thank you for taking the time to read our update and for your ongoing support of the mission.
