x+why opens new members’ clubspace, The Orchard, in London for corporate events following success of eighteen in Birmingham

x+why, the flexible workspace with purpose, is to open a second members clubspace, The Orchard, at One Great Cumberland Place, The Portman Estate’s new landmark office building in London’s West End.

  • In November 2022, x+why launched eighteen, a stylish space to work, meet and play in 103 Colmore Row, Birmingham’s tallest office building. The club and event space have panoramic views of the city from the eighteenth floor and a capacity of 180.
  • Opening  September 2023, the Orchard will bring a stylish event and members amenity to London. The club and event space are situated on the eighth floor of the building with views over Marble Arch and Hyde Park and a capacity of up to 100 located within The Portman Estate.

London, 25 August 2023: Leading flexible workspace specialist x+why has today confirmed the launch of The Orchard, an exclusive clubspace within The Portman Estate, at One Great Cumberland Place. Opening in September 2023, the space will offer members an exceptional event space in a premier location.

x+why have a proven track record of providing high quality flexible workspaces for purpose-driven businesses, with an emphasis on supporting sustainable SMEs and larger Corporates. Placing social and environmental responsibility first, x+why are B Corp certified, creating innovative workplaces that shift mind-sets and change office behaviours to the benefit of future generations.

Last year eighteen broke conventions as x+why’s first clubspace at 103 Colmore Row in Birmingham, whilst upholding the same ethos centred on sustainability, community, wellness, collaboration and better business. eighteen’s supply chain has been rigorously thought-through as exemplified in the food and drinks menu featuring many local, sustainable and ethical providers such as Change Please coffee, Purity Ale, Rourke’s pies and Odi and Moo ice cream. The Orchard builds on the success of this offering, and the value that it has offered to members.

The introduction of x+why to One Great Cumberland Place will provide the first flexible workspace offer to The Portman Estate. The design takes its inspiration from The Portman Estate’s country and London holdings, with nods to period architecture and an earthy palette reflected in sustainable materials such as cork and Bolon floors which use upcycled plastic.

The eighth floor, which will be known as The Orchard, has been transformed by x+why into an amenity space for occupiers of the building. Alongside meeting and events rooms, a bar space and private dining will be on offer providing stunning views across London. The Orchard will blur the traditionally separate spaces of work and leisure, creating a forward-thinking approach to modern hybrid working.

Rupert Dean, CEO of x+why says: “We are incredibly excited to be partnering The Portman Estate on such a landmark building as One Great Cumberland Place. The Orchard (8th floor) gives the post pandemic business exactly what it needs to operate in a hybrid way, whilst building and retaining workplace culture, and promoting employee wellbeing. For x+why, the building marks a move to the West End. We expect investment firms, property companies and tech businesses to be amongst our members here and can’t wait to see the impact that we can help them achieve through our purpose driven programmes and events.”
