The Benefits of beam’s Corporate Membership with the APPG for Events

beam’s decision to become a Corporate Member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Events marks a significant step forward for both the association and our members. This strategic move strengthens beam’s advocacy efforts while providing greater visibility for the UK’s business events sector within government.

Here’s what this means for beam members and the wider industry.

Influencing policy for a stronger events industry

The APPG for Events serves as a significant platform for engaging with policymakers on issues that directly impact the events sector.

By joining as a Corporate Member, beam gains a direct channel to influence government discussions, ensuring that the needs and challenges of beam members are well-represented.

This includes advocating for:

Updating SIC codes

Ensuring accurate representation and targeted support for the events industry.

Easier visa schemes

Facilitating international collaboration post-Brexit for both inbound and outbound events.

Event tax credit scheme

Attracting new events and supporting existing ones through financial incentives.

Attracting international events

Providing more support to position the UK as a top destination for global events.

Practical support for competitiveness

Using events as a catalyst for growth across various sectors.

Investment in Convention Bureaux

Empowering national and regional bureaus to drive economic development.

Leveraging events for policy objectives

Utilising business events as platforms to deliver and promote government policies

These initiatives align with the policy recommendations outlined in

The Business of Events Policy Agenda 2024

, reinforcing the importance of targeted government support to unlock growth in the UK events economy.

Elevating the voice of the events industry in Parliament

beam’s membership in the APPG provides a stronger voice for the industry, ensuring that event professionals have a seat at the table when key decisions are being made. The reconstitution of the APPG has already brought together MPs from across party lines, emphasising cross-sector collaboration to champion the UK’s £61.6 billion events industry.

By being part of this influential group, beam members will benefit from increased recognition and advocacy on issues such as event funding, international competitiveness, and sustainability.

Access to exclusive insights and opportunities

Corporate Membership offers beam and its members exclusive access to:

  • Parliamentary updates and events – Insights into government initiatives affecting the events sector.
  • Networking with policymakers – Opportunities to engage directly with MPs and industry leaders at APPG-hosted events.
  • Participation in policy discussions – Input into legislative and regulatory changes that impact the industry.

This ensures that beam members stay ahead of industry developments and can adapt their strategies to align with evolving government policies.

Strengthening the future of UK events

The UK events industry is a powerhouse of economic growth, employing over 600,000 people. beam’s membership in the APPG solidifies its role in shaping the future of the sector by:

  • Advocating for policies that drive innovation and sustainability.
  • Strengthening ties between government and the events industry.
  • Showcasing the value of events in delivering business, social, and cultural benefits.

By taking this proactive step, beam enhances its influence and provides tangible benefits for our members, ensuring we remain at the forefront of a resilient events landscape.

Updates from the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events
Due to his move to the Ministry of Defence as a PPS, Shaun Davies had to step down as Chair of the APPG.  We are working on identifying a new Chair, and are in touch with the Speaker’s office regarding the process, which of course is quite complex. At the moment, we have a date for an Extraordinary General Meeting to elect a new Chair, which is currently planned for 22nd October 2025, in Portcullis House, but we are hoping to have a Chair in place before then to enable us to have a simple nomination and swift election on that date.
Six months in – how Parliament is backing the events industry
It’s been six months since Shaun Davies MP was elected Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events – and a lot has happened in that time
