Wyboston Lakes Resort has achieved global B Corp Certification™

Resort scores 92.4 – ‘a strong performer’ – for its social and environmental business practices

Wyboston Lakes Resort has achieved prestigious B Corp Certification™.

It is now one of very few venues and hotels among the 2,700 organisations in the UK that have been verified by B Lab™ as meeting standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

The B Corp Community™ is a global movement of businesses that provide leadership by demonstrating their commitment to their people and the planet, their customers, their communities, the environment and their shareholders.

To become certified, businesses must achieve a minimum score of 80 points. Wyboston Lakes Resort achieved a score of 92.4, placing it comfortably above the certification threshold and classed as a “Strong Performer”.

Steve Jones, CEO of the award-winning Bedfordshire resort renowned for its pioneering approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) explained why the management team took on the challenging task of achieving B Corp Certification.

“We’ve always believed that business success should be about more than profit alone.

“For decades we’ve invested in our team members, sought to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to our local communities.  It has been important to us to operate responsibly and ethically.

“B Corp™ gave us the opportunity to have these efforts independently assessed and verified against an internationally recognised standard.”

A year to complete

The process was extensive and took almost a year to complete. The assessment involved submitting detailed evidence, policies, reports and data, followed by a rigorous verification process carried out by B Lab. It covered areas of the business including governance and decision-making; employee wellbeing and development; community engagement; environmental performance and customer impact.

Steve Jones concluded saying: “This is recognition of the way we have chosen to do business for many years. This certification belongs to everyone.

“It was only possible because of the contribution made by teams across the entire resort. I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in this achievement. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.”
